Back about ten years ago I played a Steinberger XL2 for the first time, and thats when I fell in love. The design of the body coupled with the lack of a traditional head are two main features that really sealed the deal for me. Then again I have always been attracted to small instruments in general just as a personal preference. Looking at it practically I love the travability of the instrument (if that is even a word). The simple fact that I can buy a Spirit guitar, throw it on my back, jump onto the plane and wala I'm at my next gig. Best part is that a Spirit is replaceable. Someone steals it and I replace it with a phone call. Simple, easy, and somewhat inexpensive.

I can't recall exactly when I fell in love with Steinbergers, but I do remember it being about 4-5 years ago, I remember lusting after the trans blue GM7t that they sold at Musicyo. I've only ever had the oprotunity to play the synapse model steinbergers which are very good, but I still lust after a Gm with a trans trem.

In my 20+ years of playing in bands in the Atlanta area, I only owned one Steiney back in the day and of course, it was a beat XL-2 but that thing rang out like a bell and our soundman never had a bad word to say about it. That said, we were all young, skinny metalheads with long hair and when my bandmates saw it, they flat out gave me a raft of crap about playing a "gay, black broomstick". I have to be truthful here; I folded under the pressure to look cool and went back to my Spector, but having been a guitar dealer for almost 9 years, I've gotten the opportunity to play, keep, buy and sell some of the nicest Steinbergers in the USA. I guess that makes me one lucky boy!

hmmm, well, it goes back to around 1990 when I played my first steiney (XL2), i instantly fell in love. The feel, the tone, the speed and the sheer sexyness of the little beast. Often called a cricket bat by my peers, and now my nickname for them, i have owned different steiney's since then. (Well, except for my Yamaha 6 string). I was often complimented on the sound by sound engineers stating that it is the standout best sound they have ever had the pleasure to mix. If you don't have one, then your life is not complete !!

1982, i was still in high school and saw an ad for the first steinberger bass. i loved the sheer minimalism of it and wanted one (i was a drummer at the time). so in 1989 when i joined a cover band as bass/vocal guy, i went shopping - couldn't afford the xl2, but got my xp2. the same bass i still play today, 20 years and countless gigs later! oh, and playing a steinberger makes me look taller - if i put on a fender bass i look like paul simon!
