I recently viewed the PBS interviews 1 - 6 showing the sometimes-perilous, early days of Steinberger featuring Ned himself. As they say - "Invention is 10 percent inspiration and 90 per cent perspiration." I'd add to that - "Preparedness to take a calculated gamble or two or three.". I recommend others to watch those videos in particular. They are succinct snapshots of what it takes to establish a niche market in what is still basically a traditional, retail guitar scene. Insightful and fascinating. To paraphrase Australian Sir Reginald Ansett - amongst genius, talent and education, "Persistence alone is omnipotent.".

I agree, those videos tell an amazing story about the effort ned put into his company to make it a success!

I loved the way years ago Ned talked the Japanese copyists at the NAMM show into taking their cheaper lookalikes off the market! Cool move!

As I understand it, he managed that by offering to supply the competition with Steinberger parts to be used on their guitars "Under License" if they agreed to change body shape. Neat!
