I'm new to steinberger and just bought a spirit off ebay. I was wondering how you adjust the intonation on this guitar. I don't see any set screws to adjust the individual bridges closer or further from the nut.. Is it underneath the covers?

Tony,

There should be a tiny allen screw on the bass string side of the bridge, This loosens the saddles so that they can be slid forward and backward. I use the visible allen screws to raise or lower each individual saddle, and I went with Labella .11 to .50 for the strings. To do this, I had to tighten the tremelo screw about as tight as it would go. Of course, the neck is easy to adjust on the end. I've had to make one neck adjustment in the last 9 years, and this guitar has been gigged on extensively. If you utilize all the aformentioned adjustments and don't like the way it plays, get it off to a luthier who knows Steinbergers. They're not like other guitars to intonate. The other thing I forgot to mention was a rattle of the pickups, which needed to be height adjusted after the neck was set up. I went to StewMac.com and bought some humbucker springs. I put them under the pickup screws, and the problem was solved. I also used slilicone grease on the threads of all the tuning machines to insure that they worked smoothly. The neck got a coat of butcher's wax. My luthier uses that all the time on his personal guitars as well as the ones he repairs. I'm going to replace the head of the guitar with a brass one when I can cough up the money. I'm not interested in changing to the head that can use either type of string. I love the sound of the Labella's. Let us know how it works out when you're done, and how much you like the guitar. Which model did you get?

I have the spirit. It is a korean model. Please give me your email and I can send a few pics.

When you slide the bridge saddles for the intonation, what holds the saddles in place? Just the string pressure??

Finally got the new strings from juststrings.com and put them on and intonated the guitar. One thing though.... it sounds kind of distorted. I tried lowering the pickups, but it didnt help. Any suggestions besides changing pickups??

By the way, what are the 2 set screws on either side of the bridge on top for?
