Hi everybody, I just bought a 2nd hand XS-15fpa and am liking how well it plays and how fast the fret board is. The bass arrived with round-wound strings on it. I'm wondering what you use to get that really fat growl that Steinberger is famous for. Flat wounds? Nyon? Does anybody recommend using TI's? Just trying to get that classic fretless tone. Thanks, Paul

i used to use ken smith compression wound - sort of a "lite" roundwound, where the outer winding is an oval shape. flatwounds for me just removed too much high end off the sound. i've also used the nylon strings and they feel great and give you sort of an upright sound. good luck!

I found these strings made in the UK. They're double-ball 1/2 rounds made by Status Graphite. They fit my fretless synapse XS15-Fpa perfrectly. They feel like flat-wounds but have more growl. With current exchange rates about USD$45. Go to this site and click on the link on the left hand side to order. http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html
